“History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children.” —Nelson Mandela
I was fortunate to have an opportunity last month to spend time with young people in the Transitional Living Program (TLP), and I’m so glad I did. Hearing some of their stories, their hopes and their dreams for the future was very moving. It touched my heart to just see them dance, sing, laugh and have fun just being kids. Being with youth also helped ground me in the “why” of our work at Youth In Need. The meaning and purpose, the “why,” is the real impact on the lives children, youth and families.
It was a joy to witness the positive, caring relationships between the youth and staff, as well as between the youth themselves as they support and encourage each other. Change happens in the context of relationships. Whether in a residential program, a counseling session, an early childhood classroom or home visit, or literally on the streets, it is the thousands of interactions that happen every day that have a tremendous impact on the well-being and life circumstances of our clients.
Whatever your role at Youth In Need—employee, volunteer, donor, Board member, supporter—I hope you know that you are part of something very special and deeply meaningful that is changing lives for the better. For me, that makes it all worth it.

TOYOTA Bodine Delivers Story Time
Our partners at TOYOTA Bodine stopped by our Troy Head Start Center to read to the kiddos. The Three Billy Goats Gruff is their favorite book! “Trip, trap, trip, trap!...Who’s that tripping over my bridge? roared the troll. Oh, it is only I, the tiniest of Billy Goat Gruff…” Tiny billy goats equal big fun! Thanks, TOYOTA!
